The new British High Commissioner Dr. Peter Hayes met with senior members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on 08 May 2008. The meeting was held after Dr. Hayes presented his credentials to President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. (more…)

Police track down second IED made for 29 September Male’ blast 22 November, 2007

Police have tracked down materials and parts of a second improvised explosive device planned to blow up almost simultaneously with the first that was detonated at the Sultan Park in Male’ on 29 September 2007. Three of the suspects involved in that blast which injured 12 foreign tourists have confessed to having made a second home-made explosive device, Police reports on 21 November 2007 said. Police did not comment on why the second device hadn’t gone off or where the perpetrators had planned to explode it. (more…)
MDP offices in Male’ vandalized 23 September, 2007

The main offices of the Maldivian Democratic Party Secretariat in Male’ was broken into and vandalized on 19 September 2007. The offices situated on Sosun Magu were broken into by force between 4:30pm and 9:30pm, during an off-period for staff. Vandals had broken in and forced open all the lockers, taking away two expensive mobile phones and a computer-router, a statement from the MDP Secretariat said. (more…)
