The Maldivian Democratic Party has repeated concerns over the delay in deliberating in the Peoples Majlis, (parliament) of bills seen as crucial for holding free and fair elections in the run up to the country’s first multi-party elections.

Members are expected to begin debate in June on eight main bills in the Peoples Majlis (parliament, in recess till the end of May) that are essential to ensure free and fair elections, MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Mr. Hassan Afeef said today. (more…)

MDP condemns Police ransacking of Party branch office 26 May, 2008

The Maldivian Democratic Party strongly condemns the Police ransacking the premises of MDP Branch Office in the island of Madaveli in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll.

On 19 May 2008 an investigating unit of six Police Officers stationed in Thinadhoo Island in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll came to Madaveli Island at midnight and ransacked the house Ran Avi, the premises of the MDP Branch Office in the island. (more…)

Male’ 19 May 2008 – The participants of the National Unity Alliance, the Adhaalaath Party, the Social Liberal Party, the Islamic Democratic Party (IDP), the Maldives Reform Movement (formerly the New Maldives Movement), and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), agree that it is imperative for all participants to work together to achieve success in endeavors for instituting democracy and reform via the first multi-party Presidential election in Maldives.
